A water energiser is intended to influence qualities of water beyond chemical purity alone. It is not the same thing as a water filter. This guide looks at the difference, explains terms such as structured, vitalised and living water, and gives some practical points to consider when comparing water energisers.
The simplest distinction:
A water filter is mainly concerned with what is in the water and what can be removed from it. A water energiser is intended to work with other qualities of the water, such as vitality, organisation or structure. The two approaches can complement each other.
Think of a sports person. A runner can be muddy after a cross-country race and still be bursting with energy. Another person can be freshly showered and perfectly clean, yet completely exhausted.
Cleanliness and vitality are different qualities.
| Water filter | Water energiser | |
|---|---|---|
| Main purpose | To remove or reduce unwanted substances. | To influence qualities described as vitality, structure or organisation. |
| Examples | May reduce chlorine, sediment, certain metals or other contaminants, depending on the filter. | May use vortex movement, spirals, minerals, metals, magnets, light, sound or subtle-energy approaches. |
| Water safety | Some filters and purification systems are specifically designed to improve water safety. | A water energiser should not be assumed to make unsafe water safe to drink. |
So if your water needs filtering, filter it first. If you also wish to explore water energising, this can be done afterwards.
These words are used in different ways and there is no single universally accepted scientific definition for them.
For centuries, people have valued particular springs and waters for distinctive qualities. Modern products described as water energisers approach this subject in many different ways, so it is worth looking beyond the label and asking what a particular device actually does.
Water in nature rarely moves only in straight lines. Streams bend, rivers meander and flowing water forms eddies, spirals and vortices. This natural movement has inspired many approaches to water revitalisation.
The Austrian forester and naturalist Viktor Schauberger is especially associated with twentieth-century ideas about vortex movement and the importance of observing how water moves in nature.
Some water energisers create a large visible vortex. Others use specially shaped chambers or spirals. A product described as a “vortex water device” therefore does not necessarily work in the same way as another one.
There is no single technology called water energising. Before buying a device, it can be useful to ask:
If removing contaminants is your main concern, investigate appropriate filtration or purification first.
The AQUA-VORTEX™ Liquid Energizer is PANOSUN's simple approach to water and liquid energising. Water is poured through a small, specially formed spiral, normally using a funnel. No electricity, filter cartridge, moving parts or permanent installation are required.
Unlike some vortex devices, the aim is not to create a large visible whirlpool. The form of the spiral itself is central to the AQUA-VORTEX approach.
Through our work with Co-Creative Science and subtle-energy approaches, we understand the spiral as gathering and directing life force into the water as it passes through – rather like a magnifying lens gathers and focuses light. We present this as our co-creative understanding, not as established conventional science.

For most people new to water energising, the Original AQUA-VORTEX™ is the natural place to begin. The Gold AQUA-VORTEX Plus™ is the more specialised version developed specifically for water.
Vortices, flow and turbulence are ordinary physical phenomena that can be observed and measured. Broader claims concerning “structured”, “energised” or “vitalised” water are less settled, and there is no universally accepted scientific test that defines all water marketed under these terms.
Research has nevertheless examined various forms of treated or “structured” water, including possible effects on plants. Our short review, Research into Structured & Treated Water – Selected Plant Studies (PDF), summarises several examples.
Please note: these studies used other water-treatment methods and did not test the AQUA-VORTEX™. We include them as background to the broader subject, not as proof of the AQUA-VORTEX™ or its proposed mechanism.
For the AQUA-VORTEX, the simplest starting point is comparison rather than belief:
Notice taste, texture, freshness, mouthfeel or simply your overall response. Do you notice a difference?
At PANOSUN we try to distinguish clearly between established science, exploratory research, our co-creative understanding and people's personal experiences.
