What does a Dentosophy consultation include?
An in-person Dentosophy consultation is a practical, guided process that looks beyond the teeth alone and considers the wider functional patterns of the mouth and body.
The aim is to find the most suitable Balance Activator and to support you in using it effectively.
Your first Balance Activator is included in the cost of this consultation.
A gentle, self-regulating approach
Dentosophy works by supporting the body’s own capacity to find balance.
Classical orthodontics corrects form. Dentosophy corrects function. The consultation is therefore not about correction or force, but about creating the conditions for natural regulation to emerge.
Please note: Dentosophy consultations are supportive in nature and do not replace dental or orthodontic diagnosis or treatment.
The origins of Dentosophy
Dentosophy emerged through the work of the French dental surgeon Dr. Michel Montaud, who began to question the limits of conventional orthodontics.
While structural correction could be achieved, the deeper functional patterns often remained unchanged. Montaud’s work gradually shifted focus away from force and towards function:
How can we support the organism in such a way that form reorganises from within?
This shift – from intervention to function facilitation – lies at the heart of Dentosophy.
Dr. Michel Montaud, is the author of "The Wisdom of Teeth: Dentosophy – A Gateway to Health: From Oral Balance to Total Balance"

Initial conversation
We begin with a short discussion about your situation, for example:
- breathing patterns (nose / mouth breathing)
- sleep quality
- jaw tension or discomfort
- posture and general well-being
- for children: habits such as thumb sucking, mouth posture, or restlessness
This helps build a picture of how the mouth is functioning within the whole system.
Observation and assessment
We then look at key functional aspects, such as:
- tongue posture and mobility
- swallowing pattern
- jaw movement and muscle tone
- we document general oral space and balance so we can evidence progress
This is a gentle, non-invasive assessment – no complex procedures or equipment are required. Some besides written documentation, some photos of posture, face and mouth might be taken.
Selecting the right Balance Activator
A central part of the consultation is finding the most suitable and comfortable balance activator.
Different sizes and models may be tried to ensure:
- a good, relaxed fit
- comfort when held in the mouth
- appropriate stimulation without strain
This step is important, as the effectiveness of the method depends on the correct choice so that the balance activator is worn without resistance and undue discomfort.
Guidance on use
You will receive clear, practical guidance on how to use the activator, including:
- how and when to wear it (typically first for short intervals during the day to get used to it, and then at night)
- what sensations are normal
- simple tips to support the process and maintenance
Practical details and follow-up
The initial session lasts approximately 60 – 90 minutes.
Follow-up support is an important part of the process and is included in the price. This typically is done by phone, WhatsApp or Zoom and includes:
- a short check-in after around two weeks
- a further follow-up after approximately two months
Additional follow-up appointments may be helpful in some cases. These are charged at £90 per hour, billed in 5-minute intervals.
